The Flint Firebirds scored a season-high seven goals and beat the Guelph Storm 7-1, before 2,034 at the Dort Federal Event Center Wednesday night. Flint returns to action for the second game of a five-game home-stand this Saturday night, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. against the Mississauga Steelheads.

Flint scored three goals in both the second and third periods to break the game open following a tight 1-0 first period lead. Flint outshot Guelph 39-25.

The Firebirds had ten different players who hit the scoresheet. Max Kislinger and Ethan Keppen led the way with two goals each and were named first and second star respectively. Ryan Moore notched three assists. Maurizio Colella had a goal and an assist while Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars) and Nicholas Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs) added single markers. Ty Dellandrea had a pair of assists. Hunter Holmes, Zack Pilon and Jake Durham had one assist each.

Goaltender Garrett Forrest was named third star after stopping all but one of Guelph’s 25 shots.

Matt Hotchkiss had the lone goal for the Storm. Guelph used two goaltenders in the game with Anthony Popovich starting and leaving after 30:17 who gave up three goals on 20 shots. Cole Ceci took over and played the rest of the game stopping 15 of 19 shots.

Ethan Keppen opened up the scoring with his second goal of the season as he broke in alone and let go a blast that went off the right goal post and into the net at 2:59. The goal was unassisted.

Early in the second period, Holmes made a tape-to-tape pass to Keppen who chipped the puck past Popovich for his second of the game and third of the season. Holmes had the only assist.

The Firebirds converted on a shorthanded chance to go ahead by three as Dellandrea fed a pass from the right circle to the left circle to Max Kislinger who made no mistake, scoring top shelf at 10:17. The goal was Kislinger’s second of the season ending Popovich’s night.

It didn’t take long for the Firebirds to test Ceci. Maurizio Colella scored his third goal of the season on the first shot on Ceci to earn Flint a 4-0 lead at 11:10 of the middle frame. Colella charged the net and was able to score on the sick side of Ceci. Ryan Moore drew the lone assist. Flint outshot Guelph for a second straight period 15-10.

Flint wasted no time early in the third period to make it 5-0 on a pretty three-way passing play that Kislinger was the benefactor on. Kislinger scored his second of the night and third of the season at 1:14. With the play behind the net, Durham made a pass from his backhand to Dellandrea who was also behind the goal to the left of Ceci. Dellandrea made a no-look pass to Kislinger in front who scored upstairs.

Guelph got on the board at 7:11 on a goal from Matt Hotchkiss to break up Forrest’s shutout bid. Barret Kirwin and Cedric Ralph had the assists.

Nicholas Mattinen returned the favor on the power-play at 8:59 scoring blocker-side. Moore and Colella were credited with the assists.

Nick Caamano made it 7-1 wrapping up the scoring at 18:42. Caamano, charging hard to the net received a saucer pass from Moore and Caamano fired the puck into the chest of Cici. The puck banked off a Guelph player into the net. It was Caamano’s third of the season with Moore recording his third assist of the game.
