Dallas Stars Select Caamano in 2016 NHL Draft

Buffalo, N.Y. – Flint Firebirds forward Nicholas Caamano was selected by the Dallas Stars in the fifth-round, 146th overall of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft Saturday.

Caamano joins current Flint Firebirds Brent Moran and Alex Peters as draft picks of the Dallas Stars organization and is one-of-seven Flint Firebirds/Plymouth Whalers ever to be drafted by Dallas since 1993. Additionally, former Plymouth Whaler forward Tyler Seguin (2008-10) is a current member on the Dallas Stars.

The Ancaster, Ont. native was fourth on the Firebirds roster in points last season with 20 goals and 17 assists for a total of 37 points in 64 games this season. The second-round Whalers’ draft pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection had nine multi-point games including three two-goal games for the Firebirds last season.

Caamano became the second ever Flint Firebirds player to be drafted in the NHL following Will Bitten (Montreal). After the 2016 NHL Entry Draft concluded, there are now 119 players that have been drafted into the NHL, 61 skaters that have played in the NHL and 21 players currently on NHL rosters from the Flint Firebirds and Plymouth Whalers organizations combined.
