FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) — Rachel Stewart loves hockey, so when the Firebirds came to Flint, Michigan, her family made sure they got season tickets.

She and her family sit right up against the glass, which the team loves because they get a good view of their loudest and proudest fan.

A few players say she’s been such a great supporter, that they had to make sure they returned the favor.

Rachel gets to the games early and she stays late, just to watch her favorite team in action, especially her favorite player, Alex Peters.

“She just she picked him,” said her mom, Joy Eddy, “I don’t know why, but we got her a jersey with his number on it and everything. So that’s been her guy ever since.”

A guy Rachel is very protective of.

“Remember when someone slammed Alex against the boards, what did you do? What did you tell that other guy?” Rachel’s mom asked her. “NO!” she replied.

It’s an honor Peters doesn’t take lightly. Over the past year, he’s signed her jersey, given her a custom stick and most recently, he called Rachel to make sure she felt better after she slipped and shattered her elbow.
