At 1:41 of the first period, Erie’s Mitchell Mendonca was assessed a five minute major for a match-head check. Nicholas Caamano, standing up for his fallen teammate, received a two-minute minor, which would eventually give Flint a three-minute power-play.

In his first game back since February 20th, 2017, Luke Kirwan tied the score for Flint as he pounced on a loose puck in the Erie zone and fired a shot from the high slot that beat Erie goaltender Anand Oberoi glove-side above his left shoulder. The goal was unassisted at 5:11.

The Otters scored the only goal of the second period when Carson Edwardson lit-the-lamp on a rebound play as Forrest slid from left to right in an attempt to stop the shot. Yetman had his second assist and Mitchell Byrne also was credited with a helper. The goal was the Otters’ second power-play goal of the game and put Erie up 3-1 after 40 minutes of play. The Firebirds tied the game in the third period, scoring two goals in 30 seconds. Ryan Littlejohn fed a perfect pass to Caamano who scored backdoor at 5:30 to trim the deficit to one. Flint tied the game at the six minute mark on a goal from Hakon Nilsen who let go a wrist shot from the right-point that beat Oberoi. Caamano and Hunter Holmes were awarded the assists.
Yetman scored the winning goal less than four minutes later on a rebound shot from Cade Robinson. Forrest made a great right-pad save on Robinson but the puck directed to Yetman on the door-step who found twine.
The Firebirds return back-to-action Sunday afternoon as the club faces off against the North Bay Battalion. Puck drop is set for 12:30 p.m. at the HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY. The game can be heard live throughout Flint & Mid-Michigan on US 103.1 FM and around the world online at www.us103.com.
