The Adirondack Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, have signed Flint Firebirds’ goaltender Connor Hicks to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO).
Hicks, 20, becomes the sixth Flint Firebird to begin his professional career this season. He spent three-combined years with the Belleville Bulls, Hamilton Bulldogs and the Flint Firebirds.
The 6-foot-4, 193-pound goaltender recorded a 3.21 goals against average (GAA) and a .886 save percentage (SAV%) in 38 games with the Firebirds last season. Hicks started between-the-pipes in the last seven consecutive games for Flint and posted a 4.01 GAA including a .879 SAV% in five playoff games.
“Connor had a solid year with the Flint Firebirds and a tremendous playoffs,” said Flint Firebirds General Manager George Burnett. “It’s great to see him recognized and have the opportunity to get the pro hockey experience.”
The Kanata, Ont. native accumulated 32 regular-season wins and one shutout in 96 career games in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Prior to being selected in the seventh-round, 130th overall in the 2013 OHL Draft by the Belleville Bulls, Hicks played his youth hockey with the Ottawa Senators AAA Hockey Club in the Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) League.
Hicks joined the Thunder prior to their road game last night, Friday, Apr. 14, against the Los Angeles Kings ‘ ECHL affiliate, Manchester Monarchs.
