Flint, Mich. – The Firebirds return back to action this afternoon, Sunday Nov. 19 vs the Owen Sound attack. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. at the Dort Federal Event Center.
The game will mark the second-of-four meetings between the Firebirds and the Attack and first-of-two in Flint. Flint earned a 4-3 shootout victory in Owen Sound on Sep. 23. Firebirds’ netminder Garrett Forrest made 43 saves on 46 shots and was named the game’s second star. This time, the Attack come to Flint with a 5-5-0-0 record on the road while the Firebirds are now 5-6-1-0 in Flint. Overall, Owen Sound ranks second in the OHL’s Midwest Division with a season record of 11-6-0-2. Flint currently stands fifth in the West Division with a record of 7-12-2-0.
On special teams, the Attack is ranked sixth in the OHL on the power-play, converting at 23.8%. Flint is scoring at 15.4% on the man-advantage. After successfully killing all five penalties this past Wednesday against the OHL’s third-best power-play ran by the Sarnia Sting and four out of five against the Erie Otters last night, Flint’s penalty-kill is operating at 71% while Owen Sound is 79.2% when shorthanded.

Players to Watch
Flint Firebirds (7-12-2-0, 5th Western Division):
Both Ty Dellandrea and Nick Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs) have recorded four points (1G, 3A) in the last two games.
Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars) leads the Firebirds in points this season with 20 points in 21 games. He has scored 11 goals, including his first career hat trick on Wednesday, and added nine assists. Ryan Moore is second on the team with 19 points in 19 games. He has six goals and 13 helpers. Maurizio Colella sits third in points with 18. Colella has recorded eight goals and ten assists in 21 games played this season.
In net, Garrett Forrest enters the contest with a 4.50 goals against average (GAA) and a save percentage of .869%. Forrest has appeared in 18 games in the OHL this season. Luke Cavallin has a 5.32 GAA and .856 SAV%.
NHL: The Firebirds have three players that have been drafted by NHL teams consisting of Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars), Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Nicholas Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs). Additionally, Dennis Busby, Ty Dellandrea, Hunter Holmes, Ryan Littlejohn and Jack Wismer are six first time eligible players to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft in June 2018. Busby, Dellandrea, Wismer, and Holmes were listed among NHL Central Scouting’s November ‘Players to Watch’ list for the upcoming 2018 NHL Draft.
Owen Sound Attack (11-7-0-2, 2nd Midwest Division):
The Attack are led by Nick Suzuki (Vegas Golden Knights) who is third in the OHL with 34 points (11G, 23A) in 20 games played this season. Suzuki has six points in the last four games. Sean Durzi ranks second on the visiting team and is fifth in the OHL with 34 points (11, 23A). Durzi has at least one point in 16 of the 20 games this season. Kevin Hancock has contributed 10 goals and 18 assists for a total of 28 points in 20 games.
In goal, the Owen Sound team features former Flint Firebird netminder Zack Bowman (2015-2016 season), who has made 15 appearances this season. He enters the game with a 3.75 goals against average, and an 86.6% save percentage. In the 2013 OHL entry draft, Bowman was selected by the Plymouth Whalers, the team that later relocated to Flint, MI and became the Flint Firebirds organization.
NHL: Owen Sound features six players with ties to NHL teams. This list includes forwards Jonah Gadjovich (Vancouver Canucks), Maksim Sushko (Philadelphia Flyers) and Nick Suzuki (Vegas Golden Knights). Three of their defensemen have been drafted as well, including Trenton Bourque (St. Louis Blues), Jacob Friend (Los Angeles Kings) and Markus Phillips (Los Angeles Kings). Aidan Dudas, Sean Durzi, Kevin Hancock, Brady Lyle, and Matthew Struthers of the Attack were also listed among NHL Central Scouting’s November ‘Players to Watch’ list for the 2018 NHL Draft in June.
