Team excited to host 28 of 34 home games on weekends and holiday dates
Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds Hockey Club announced the composite schedule for the 2017-18 season. The schedule features 28 of the Firebirds’ 34 regular season home games taking place on either weekends or holiday dates at the newly renovated Dort Federal Event Center in Flint.
Included in the Firebirds’ fan-friendly home schedule, are eight “College Nights,” featuring $2 beers and $2 hot dogs and five Sunday “Family Nights” also with generous food and beverage discounts.
Fans will have the opportunity to see every member of the 20-team league as each club will visit Flint for a minimum of one time throughout the regular season. Likewise, the Firebirds will play in every OHL city at least once throughout the 2017-18 campaign.
Firebirds team President Costa Papista stated, “We could not be more excited about our 2017-18 OHL schedule. We play the vast majority of our home games on non-school nights, allowing us to accommodate families and younger fans. By design, our schedule avoids the majority of high school football Friday night games in the fall. Mid Michigan has embraced our Saturdays as “hockey night” in Flint and Genesee County and we are thrilled to have (16) Saturday nights on the schedule.”
Flint will have many opportunities to get acquainted with the other four West Division members, as the Firebirds will faceoff against the Saginaw Spirit and Sarnia Sting eight times each this season including six games each against the Windsor Spitfires and Soo Greyhounds. The Firebirds will battle against the five remaining Western Conference members four times each and will also play both one game at home and one contest on the road against the 10 Eastern Conference clubs.
The Firebirds will host one Saturday night pre-season game at the Firebirds’ official practice facility, Iceland Arenas on Elms Road in Clayton Township on September 16th against the Saginaw Spirit at 7 p.m. (ET). Tickets are complimentary to Firebirds’ season ticket holders and sponsors. Fans can purchase for $10 dollars. Seating will be General Admission.
