Firebirds’ Winterton Scores Twice for Team Blue in 3-2 Victory Over Team Grey Tuesday Morning

Flint, Mich. – Recently signed forward Jacob Winterton scored two goals in the opening frame for Team Blue Tuesday morning en-route to a 3-2 victory over Team Grey in the first of four games at the Firebirds’ 4th Annual Training Camp.

Winterton started things off 3:19 into the first period when he stole the puck from a Team Grey defenseman in the slot and fired upstairs, blocker-side past Aidan Pitre. 3:21 later, Winterton sent a shot on goal from the left-wing wall that snuck past Pitre short-side. Riley McCourt and Ryan Mansfield were credited with the assists.

With 3:21 remaining in the first period, Pitre denied a scoring chance in the slot from Grant Fontyn with a right-shoulder save. After the opening 15 minutes, Team Blue headed to the locker room up 2-0 but Team White led in shots 11-7.

At 6:36 of the middle frame, Connor Roberts attempted to score on a wrap-around play but Pitre was there to make the diving save with his paddle. The two teams switched netminders with 7:35 remaining in the second period. Christian Linton made all 16 saves for Team Blue and Pitre made 11 saves on 13 shots for Team Grey.

The score remained 2-0 after the second period. Team Blue led in shots 21-19.

Then, with 12:01 remaining in the contest, Evan Morrison made back-to-back sprawling saves before Markus Paterson found twine. Grant Fontyn was credited with the assist. Team Blue led 3-0.

CJ Clarke would score the first goal of Training Camp for Team Grey. Clarke was on the doorstep for a tap-in goal with 11:04 remaining in the game. Jack Wismer picked up the lone assist.

Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs) scored a highlight reel type goal, skating into Team Blue’s zone before scoring between-the-legs, five-hole past Cavallin to bring Team Grey within one with 1:41 remaining. Team Grey pulled Morrison for the extra-attacker with 1:15 remaining but were unable to convert.
