Costa Papista brings a lifetime of hockey knowledge to the table. He has effectively translated his on-ice experience to front office and management leadership positions at many levels of hockey – including the AHL, ECHL and OHL. He has successfully launched four start-up franchises, including the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit in 2002.

His understanding of effective hockey management has led to the creation of dynamic front offices and community programs to complement competitive teams on the ice. Papista has delivered innovative ideas to market and promote teams within the community that have shown direct and positive impact on attendance and corporate support.

Papista has held leadership positions with several teams, including GM and Alternate Governor of the Louisville Panthers (AHL), President and GM of the Saginaw Spirit (OHL), President of the Dayton Bombers (ECHL), GM of the Port Huron Border Cats (UHL), Special Consultant to Wayne State University’s (Detroit) Administration and Athletic Department, and Special Consultant to the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks and L.C. Walker Arena.

Papista also founded and operated the Great Lakes Hockey Skills School and the Great Lakes Professional Free Agent Camp, both in Detroit. His experience also includes working as a player recruiter with the Triad Sports Management Agency in Toronto.

This passion for hockey has its roots in Papista’s on-ice experiences. He played three OHL seasons (1985-88) for the Sudbury Wolves and London Knights.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1991 at the University of New Brunswick, Canada while on a hockey scholarship.  Papista also competed internationally at the Hockey World Championships (1995) as a member of the Greek National Team.

In his free time, Papista continues to play hockey on several recreational teams and enjoys time at home with his wife, Lisa, and daughters, Eva and Stella.
