Buffalo, NY – The Firebirds scored two shorthanded goals Saturday evening and erased a two goal deficit in the third period to record a 4-3 victory over the Erie Otters in the second of three games at the OHL Pre-Season Showcase. With the win, Flint improved to 2-0 on the pre-season.

The Otters would strike first with 11 seconds remaining in the first period. After being stopped on a breakaway attempt, Kyle Maksimovich dished the puck back to Hayden Fowler who scored far side past Firebirds’ netminder Luke Cavallin.

The Firebirds tied the contest with 6:36 remaining in the middle period. While keeping the puck in the Otters’ zone at the left wing point, Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs) backhanded the puck to Dennis Busby (Arizona Coyotes) at the right point. Busby fired on goal where Jake Durham deflected the puck past Noah Battaglia.

31 seconds later, Chad Yetman was able to regain the lead for the Otters on a 3-on-2 passing play before Chad Yetman made it 3-1, scoring off a rebound on the doorstep.

Flint then scored back-to-back shorthanded goals 2:12 a part to tie the contest. Connor Roberts skated up the left wing wall and dished the puck to Hunter Holmes in the slot who scored blockerside. Then, Evan Vierling found Ethan Keppen in the slot before Keppen lit-the-lamp to tie the contest with 9:32 remaining in the game.

Connor Roberts earned his fourth goal, and sixth point in two games, scoring farside over the netminder’s right shoulder from the top of the right circle with 1:35 remaining in the contest. Flint outshot Erie 34-24.
