Flint, Mich. – Firebirds’ Ryan Moore recorded two goals, Kyle Harris notched his first-career OHL goal and Hakon Nilsen earned two assists in a 6-4 loss to the Owen Sound Attack Sunday afternoon. Owen Sound’s Nick Suzuki struck three times for a hat-trick in the Attack’s victory.

It was a back and forth game as the lead changed four times. In addition to Moore’s two goal effort and being named as the second star, the Firebirds received goals from Ethan Keppen and Kyle Harris. Hakon Nilsen contributed a pair of assists and Jake Durham and Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs) adding one assist each.

Garrett Forrest started the game for Flint and registered 34 saves before being relieved by Luke Cavallin near the mid-way point of the third period. Cavallin stopped all six shots he faced.

Nick Suzuki (Vegas Golden Knights) was selected as the number one star. Chase Campbell, Daylon Grouix and Maksim Sushko added one each for the Attack. Aidan Dudas had a productive game setting up three goals and was the third star of the game.

Mack Guzda stopped 33 of 37 shots in net for the Attack as they out-shot the Firebirds 46-37.

Power-play goals played a key role in the game as Owen Sound scored twice on two chances and the Firebirds netted one as well with the man-advantage.

Owen Sound scored on the power-play at 5:28 to jump out to an early 1-0 lead as Nick Suzuki netted his 12th of the year on a shot from top of the right circle with a few players in front of Forrest. Brady Lyle and Kevin Hancock drew the assists.

It did not take long for the Firebirds to get on track as they scored twice in two minutes to grab their first lead of the game. Kyle Harris scored his first career OHL goal on a great effort. Picking up the puck at the Firebirds blue line, Harris turned up the speed at center ice and skated down the left wing before letting a shot go that beat Owen Sound goaltender Mack Guzda on the far side at 7:28. Jake Durham drew the lone assist.

Flint went ahead at 9:08 as once again speed played a big role, with Ryan Moore breaking in alone notching his seventh of the year beating Guzda on the blocker side. C.J. Clarke and Hakon Nilsen set up the scoring play.

Forrest was sharp the rest of the first period making a handful of good saves and getting help from the cross-bar as well.

The first period also featured a pretty spirited fight between Ryan Moore and Trenton Bourque (St. Louis Blues) at 16:45 with both players receiving five minute fighting majors.

Second period play opened up with a penalty call against the Firebirds, and the Attack scored on the power-play shortly after. Suzuki scored his second of the game from Aidan Dudas at 1:47 to tie the game at 2-2.

Chase Campbell put the Attack back in front as the lead changed for the third time in the game. Campbell, while charging the net, got a great pass from the left-wing from Maksim Sushko and Campbell tapped it in from the back-door at 10:33. Sushko and Dudas with his second assist of the game, were credited with the helpers.

Moore tied the game in dramatic style, scoring his second of the game and eighth of the season to tie the contest with just two seconds remaining in the middle frame. Owen Sound turned the puck over in their own end and Moore picked up the gift and beat Guzda blocker-side to send both teams into the second intermission tied at 3-3. Officially the unassisted goal came at 19:58.

Maksim Sushko put the Attack ahead at 4-3 as the lead changed for a fourth time in the game. Taking a drop pass from Dudas, Sushko scored from inside the left circle beating Forrest on the short side at 1:02.

Suzuki scored his third goal of the game at 7:55 to increase the Attack lead to 5-3 as he came out with the puck from the right corner and moved in front letting go a shot from his back-hand. Jonanh Gadjovich drew the only assist.

Daylon Grouix added a goal 41 seconds later with a slap-shot from the right-wing with Zachary Roberts assisting at 8:36 and ending Forrest’s night.

Ethan Keppen pulled the Firebirds to within two as he tipped a shot from Nilsen in front, for a power-play goal at 10:18. Nilsen let the shot go from the right point that deflected off of Harris before Keppen redirected it past Guzda. Along with Nilsen, Fedor Gordeev also received an assist on the play. It was Keppen’s sixth of the year.
