Flint, Mich. – Nick Caamano earned his first-career OHL hat-trick and both Ty Dellandrea and Nick Mattinen recorded three assists in a 5-3 victory over the first-place Sarnia Sting Wednesday.

Ryan Moore started the scoring for the Firebirds at 6:47 of the first period. In highlight-reel fashion, as Moore’s penalty expired, Jack Phibbs found him out of the box. While on a breakaway, Moore buried over the right pad and below the blocker of Sarnia netminder Aiden Hughes.

Ryan McGregor (Toronto Maple Leafs) tied the contest for Sarnia when he scored his seventh of the season from the top of the left circle, glove-side past Firebirds’ goaltender Garrett Forrest. 53 seconds later, Egert earned Sarnia their only lead of the game with 8:24 remaining in the first period. In similar style, Egert scored from the top of the left circle, with the puck bouncing off the left arm of Forrest and into the net. Sarnia led 2-1 after the opening frame.

Jacob Collins tied the contest for Flint, scoring his first of the season, also from the top of the left circle, glove-side past Hughes. Ryan Littlejohn and CJ Clarke earned the assists with 3:34 remaining in the middle frame. After two periods, the game was tied 2-2.

Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars) regained the Firebirds’ lead at 10:07 of the third period when he scored his first of three goals on the night. Ty Dellandrea picked up the puck in the right corner in the Sarnia zone, skated it behind the net and centered it to Caamano, who found the back of the net. Nick Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs) tallied his first assist on the night.

Drake Rymsha (Los Angeles Kings) notched his 11th of the season to tie the game at three at 11:29 of the final frame. Jordan Kyrou (St. Louis Blues) centered the puck, which deflected off of Anthony Salinitri (Philadelphia Flyers), right to the stick of Rymsha. Rymsha scored blocker-side past Forrest from the slot.

Moments later, Firebirds’ defenseman Hakon Nilsen made a critical save, knocking the puck out of mid-air to deny the Sting the lead.

Caamano scored the Firebirds’ game-winning goal and second of the night with 2:25 remaining in the game. Ty Dellandrea found Caamano in the slot from the left circle. Caamano buried upstairs past Hughes. Caamano then recorded his first-career OHL hat-trick on an empty net goal with 33 seconds remaining.

Garrett Forrest earned his seventh victory of the season after stopping 33 saves on 36 shots. Aiden Hughes picked up the loss with 31 saves of 35 shots. The Firebirds were a perfect five-for-five on the penalty kill but did not score on two man-advantages.
