Bertucci, Eleven OHL players win Bronze with Canada at 2023 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to congratulate the 11 OHL players that won bronze with Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team at the 2023 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday.

Canada defeated Slovakia 4-3 in overtime, with Andrew Gibson (Soo Greyhounds) collecting an assist on the game-winning goal scored by Macklin Celebrini. Colby Barlow (Owen Sound Attack) scored in the victory.

Canada returns to the podium after winning gold at the tournament in 2021. The bronze is Canada’s fourth following previous third-place finishes in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Canada finished with an overall record of 5-2, with both of their losses coming against Sweden. Calum Ritchie (Oshawa Generals) was Canada’s top scorer from the OHL, recording nine points (3-6–9) over seven games while Porter Martone (Mississauga Steelheads) had six (3-3–6).

Cam Allen (Guelph Storm) served as Canada’s captain for the tournament.

In addition to 11 OHL players on Canada’s roster, the team also featured Assistant Coach John Dean, who serves as Head Coach of the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds.
