Firebirds’ Forward Riley Piercey Signs AHL Deal with the Bridgeport Islanders

Flint, Mich. – The Bridgeport Islanders of the American Hockey League (AHL) announced today the signing of Firebirds’ forward Riley Piercey.
“It’s a great feeling,” Piercey said. “It’s a big step in the right direction for me. I think it’ll be a good fit for me down in Bridgeport and I’m just extremely excited and honored about the opportunity.”
Piercey finished his OHL tenure with a career season in Flint. In 67 GP he scored 22 G and added 48 A while leading the team at +24. He set career bests in assists, points (70), and +/- this past season.
“This couldn’t have been done without the support of all my teammates, coaches, trainers, and of course the fans for endless support throughout my time there. Thank you, Flint,” he added.
The Firebirds acquired the 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward at the trade deadline back in the 2019-20 season. He immediately made an impact scoring two goals in his team debut in a win over rival Saginaw. Piercey now heads to the AHL after having one of the best careers ever in a Firebirds uniform. He ranks 9th all-time in G (57), 3rd in A (92), 6th in Pts (149), and 5th in PIMs (151).
The Mississauga, Ont. native was selected by the Barrie Colts in the first round (16th overall) back in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection after playing his U16 season with the Toronto Marlboros (GTHL). He finishes his OHL career having played in 248 games, scoring 69 G and producing 107 A.
