Rivals Clash for Firebirds’ Opening Night in September

Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds will drop the puck for their second season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) against the club’s in-state rival, Saginaw Spirit on Wed. Sep. 21 at the newly renovated Dort Federal Event Center in Flint. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (ET) and fans can also enjoy the first of six “College Nights,” featuring $2 beers & 2 hot dogs for the mid-week season opener.

Opening night on Sep. 21 will be one of four regular season home contests against the Saginaw Spirit and will be the first time the two rivals face each other since the Firebirds claimed the inaugural Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup on Mar. 2 in Flint.

Last season, the Firebirds earned a 3-2 shootout victory over the Saginaw Spirit before a sellout crowd of more than 4,000 fans at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint’s inaugural season opener. The inaugural opening night sold out 44 days in advance.

Fans can purchase opening night and single game tickets for the Firebirds 2016-17 season beginning Friday, Sep. 9 at 10 AM. Ticket prices have remained the same as last season and are $12 for bronze, $15 for silver and $19 for corporate/gold seating.  Fans can purchase online at ticketmaster.com, by visiting the Dort Federal Event Center Box Office Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. or by phone at (810) 744-0580.

Prior to opening night, the Firebirds will host two Friday night pre-season games at the Dort Federal Event Center. The first game will be Sep. 2 against Windsor followed by Saginaw on Sep. 9. Tickets are complimentary to Firebirds’ season ticket holders and sponsors.  All other fans can purchase for $10 dollars.  Seating will be General Admission for non-season ticket holders. Fundraising tickets will also be available to all local non-profit and charity organizations for these two pre-season games.  Please e-mail Susana Wight for additional fundraising information at susana@flintfirebirds.com.

The Firebirds begin their training camp on August 29th at the Flint Iceland Arenas. Training camp is open to the public with free admission for all on-ice sessions. Stay tuned to www.FlintFirebirds.com for more information on the Firebirds 2016 full schedule and training camp information.
