Flint, Mich. – For the first time in franchise history, the Firebirds are internationally ranked. The Firebirds are listed at #10 in the CHL Top-10 Rankings, presented by Kia. The weekly rankings of the Canadian Hockey League’s (CHL) Top-10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.
The Firebirds are now off to their best start in franchise history, posting a 9-3-0-0 record through their first 12 games, including the only club in the OHL that is still undefeated on home-ice with a 6-0-0-0 record. Flint has spent the past two weeks as an honorable mention and received their first honorable mention in their third season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) on October 4th, 2017.
The Flint Firebirds return back home this Saturday afternoon for the club’s ‘Grandparent’s Day!’ Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. (ET) at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint. Grandparent’s day features up to two free kids tickets (17 & under) with the purchase of a paid grandparent’s ticket at the Dort Federal Event Center Box Office, starting as low as $12.
The Flint Firebirds are a proud member of the prestigious 20-team Ontario Hockey League. The OHL is one of three leagues that make up the 60-team Canadian Hockey League (CHL), which is known as the world’s premiere player development league for the NHL. On NHL opening day rosters in October, 70% of NHL players were CHL alums. Since the Firebirds’ inception in Flint, Michigan four seasons ago, the team has produced 17 NHL signed or drafted players. More than 250 scouts representing all 31 NHL clubs attended a Firebirds game in Flint throughout the 2018-19 season. The Firebirds average nearly 3,000 fans per game at the newly renovated Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center, reaching over 100,000 fans each OHL season.
