Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today that club has completed a trade with the London Knights.
In the trade, the Firebirds acquire forward Sahil Panwar (pronounced saw-hill, pan-waar). In return, Flint trades London’s fourth-round pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection to the Knights.
“We are looking forward to Sahil arriving in Flint,” said Flint Firebirds Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Barclay Branch. “Sahil has untapped potential that will translate well to our style of play and will be a nice addition to our forward group.”
Panwar, a native of Mississauga, Ont., was London’s second-round pick (23rd overall) in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound forward recorded 11 points (6G, 5A) and 20 penalty minutes in 74-career OHL games with the Knights. Panwar was also chosen among Canada’s best hockey players in 2018 when he was invited to Hockey Canada’s World Under-17 Challenge.
“I’m excited for this new opportunity and a fresh start,” said Panwar. “I’m ready to help the Firebirds now and bring a championship to Flint.”
Prior to his OHL career, Panwar played his youth hockey locally in Michigan, where he led the Detroit Honeybaked Midget Minor 16U AAA Hockey Club in points, amassing 62 points (23G, 39A) in 50 games played during the 2017-18 season. Panwar played a key role for Honeybaked, becoming 2018 playoff champions in the High Performance Hockey League (HPHL). Sahil also spent two seasons playing in California, as he competed for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (T1EHL).
Panwar will report to Flint for the Firebirds training camp on November 16th and will wear number 26 for the Firebirds.
