Flint Firebirds Host Families
The Flint Firebirds are accepting applications from host families in Genesee County. The Firebirds’ players come to Flint from all over the world to play in the prestigious 20-team Ontario Hockey League (OHL), which is commonly referred to as the premiere player development league for the NHL.
Host Families are essential to the success of the Flint Firebirds Hockey Club. Our nurturing Host Families provide a stable and secure home-away-from-home for our players. Many players leave home and their families for the first time to play in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). A host family allows our players to realize their potential as elite student-athlete at an elite level of hockey.
Host families, also known as billet families, develop lifelong relationships with Firebirds’ players, in addition to establishing lasting connections with the players, parents, and extended family.
To qualify as a billet, families must provide a player with his own room from the start of training camp in late august through the end of the hockey season and provide the player with regular family meals. In exchange, the families receive a monthly stipend to help pay for groceries, season tickets to all 34 home games, and invitations to team events.
