Joe Stefan brings a wealth of international hockey experience to the Flint Firebirds.

Stefan, now the Assistant General Manager for the Firebirds, played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Brantford Alexanders and the Hamilton Steelhawks (now the Erie Otters) from 1983-86. Following his junior playing career in the OHL, Stefan played minor pro hockey in North America from 1988-91 before joining his brother Gary in England with the Slough Jets of the British National League (BNL).

Stefan played with Slough from 1991-97, Basingstoke from 1997-98 and then back with Slough from 1998-02.  He then became Head Coach and General Manager of Slough of the Jets and won the BNL championship under his direction in 1998-99.

After retiring from playing in 2002, Stefan joined the Plymouth Whalers staff as a scout in 2005 before becoming an assistant coach in 2007. Three years later, Stefan was named Associate Coach for the Whalers.
